The HKSA has no confirmed standpoints on statutory registration yet. We are still exploring the issue by being open to discussion with our members and keeping connection with other allied health professions.

The Executive Committee (Exco) made invitations by the following principles:
- Minimize overlapping manpower with other sub-committees e.g CPD, Consultative Committee and Exco
- Include people both private and public sectors
- Include people with overseas experience
- Include people with connection to other professional colleagues providing audiological services in Hong Kong
- Include people with different years of practice in Audiology
August 2010
Representatives from HKSA Exco attended a meeting on statutory regulation made possible by Dr. Joseph Lee Kok-long, Legislative Councilor of the Health Services Constituency. In the meeting, Chiropractors shared their experience in the legislation o the Chiropractors Registration Ordinance. Summary of the meeting can be found here.

A HKSA representative attended a dinner meeting with other allied health professions and also Professor LEUNG Nai-kong, BBS, JP (Chair-person of Supplementary Medical Profession Councils). The meeting was organized by Office Of Dr. Hon. Joseph Lee Kok Long (Legislative Councillor, Health Services Constituency).
Meeting Summary:
- A widely accepted and well defined professional scope of practice, minimal training requirement and use of title should be prepared before any taking any action that involves the government;
- The interest of the vast majority within the profession should be addressed in the definitions;
- Different levels or streams of registration and mechanisms for upgrading can be used to address diverse training background;
- Make a written statement that points out, from the view of the public, the need of registration and regulation;

A presentation of findings and analysis of the present situations and possibilities on statutory registration of HKSA were made in Annual General Meeting 2010. A motion was passed to authorize the HKSA Executive Committee to further investigate the registration issues and liaise with other interested societies of allied health professions for discussion and exploration.

A discussion forum on Statutory Registration for Audiologists was held. The following outstanding guests were invited to the forum to share on their experience of statutory registration:
- Mr. Dominic Chim, Councillor of Hong Kong Association of Private Practice Optometrists and the former President of Hong Kong Society of Professional Optometrists (1997-2000)
- Dr. Joseph Lee, Legco member of Health Services Constituency
- Dr. Eugenie Leung, Chairperson of Preparatory Committee on the Statutory Registration of Psychologist, Hong Kong Psychological Society
- Mr. Terry Ting, President-elect, Hong Kong Nutrition Association
